Newcastle Living Magazine

A complete brand refresh and ongoing design and content for a local property lifestyle magazine.

With our existing experience in print media, we were pleased to not only take on the rebranding of Newcastle Living Magazine, but to also be given the opportunity to design, write and edit this lifestyle property publication from start to finish.

Newcastle Living is an independent, printed property industry magazine that also focuses on local insights and community news. Each edition includes up-to-date property insights from across the region and advice from a team of property experts, coupled with feature stories that draw focus to local places of interest and the lifestyle of the Newcastle region.

Although the publication had already been in circulation for a number of years, the team at Ray White Newcastle came to us when they were looking to refresh the brand and take the magazine in a slightly new direction.

Our experience as Creative Directors for Swell magazine, combined with the skills of our in-house copywriter, meant we were well-placed to provide polished content and proofreading for the entire publication.

What we did

Design

When it came to refreshing the branding for Newcastle Living magazine, it was all about making it warm and friendly while reflecting the vibrancy of our local area.

We achieved this by creating a new logo in a rounded, sans-serif font using a warm Harvest Gold colour for the version that will be used the most. We chose this colour to reflect the golden sand of our beaches and warmth of the sun, while also being bold enough to stand alone on white backgrounds. We included handwritten A and V letters within the logo, which adds a nice human touch and point of difference.

We chose a suite of brand colours that we feel help to represent the beauty of the local area, which is the focus of the magazine. Using a combination of bright bold colours, such as the Canary Yellow (which links to the brand colours of Ray White Newcastle), with some warmer earthy tones, there’s plenty of scope for variation and different combinations that will appeal to a wide audience.

Editorial

In line with the rebranding of this magazine, the team at Ray White also wanted to take the magazine’s content in a slightly new direction. Given their wide knowledge of the local area, they wanted to be able to highlight different venues and attractions in feature style articles interspersed with property figures and suburb breakdowns. Their aim was for the content of the magazine to become more community-focused, reflecting their team’s love and knowledge of the region.

Our experience as Creative Directors for Swell magazine, combined with the skills of our in-house copywriter, meant we were well-placed to provide polished content and proofreading for the entire publication. We look forward to continue working with the team on future issues of Newcastle Living magazine.
